Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.

“It's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Response

Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
