Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
