Palestinian-American Youth Freed After Nine-Month Period in Israeli Custody

An American-Palestinian youth having endured a nine-month period in Israel's custody without charge has been freed.

The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim was fifteen years old when he was arrested in February within the occupied West Bank, where he was visiting on holiday from Florida for allegedly throwing stones at Jewish settlers, which he previously denied.

The US state department applauded the teenager's freedom.

Currently aged sixteen, was taken to hospital upon gaining freedom, according to close relatives.

According to them, he appears pale, underweight, and experiencing medical problems contracted in captivity.

Via family representatives, Mohammed's uncle conveyed their "overwhelming sense of relief".

Zeyad Kadur described how relatives endured "surviving a terrible, unending nightmare" during the entire detention period.

"Currently, our priority is getting Mohammed the immediate medical attention necessary for his recovery following exposure to mistreatment by authorities and cruel circumstances throughout his detention."

American authorities stated they would maintain to offer diplomatic assistance for the Ibrahim family.

Several congressional representatives submitted a formal letter to the state department and the administration, requesting additional efforts for his freedom.

Mr Ibrahim, a father-of-four operating an ice cream shop in Florida, previously claimed his child admitted guilt regarding stone throwing because the soldiers beat him.

The father hadn't visited or communicated with his son since the arrest, learning information solely regarding the treatment through judicial records.

Mohammed was held absent formal charges in Ofer prison on the West Bank.

The facility also contains mature inmates, some of whom have been convicted of serious terrorism offences including killings.

An estimated 350 Palestinian child security detainees detained within Israeli facilities, according to the Israeli Prison Service.

Numerous remain uncharged along with monitoring agencies, including UN bodies, report instances of physical abuse and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, the uncle stated the family would also continue fighting for justice for his cousin Sayfollah Musallet.

Initially, defense forces stated authorities were looking into reports a Palestinian civilian had died.

The two cousins had worked together within the family's frozen treats establishment in Tampa, Florida.

No one has been charged regarding Sayfollah's death.
